ECHOES OF EARTH

I’m JC Candanedo, a London-based socially-engaged Multidisciplinary Artist and Photographer, and this is my work commissioned by Anciela London. “Echoes of Earth” is a campaign inspired by the powerful message of the latest UN Biodiversity Conference COP16 Colombia —“The time has come to make peace with nature”—This campaign reflects on this call to action and explores how we can create harmony within our own urban ecosystems, particularly in a bustling city like London.

The shoot was a collaboration with Anciela, a sustainable Latin Fashion brand celebrating folklore, art and experimental tailoring from Colombia and Chile crafted in London by Jennifer Droguett, and British-Colombian actor and indigenous activist Díana Bermudez.

Together, we reflected on our roles as creatives during a time of climate crisis and built a conscious ecosystem of curated objects imbued with deep symbolism. Every element in the campaign carries a rich history—from upcycled trees made from discarded garments from the Traid charity warehouse to yuccas and plantains prepared for dinner that same day. Each item has lived many lives and tells a story

Echoes of Earth shifts the narrative to emphasise immediate, actionable solutions that can positively impact our local environments and communities. The campaign poses the question: What can we do today to protect and nurture the ecosystems closest to us? It encourages us to reimagine the outdoors within the limitations of urban living.

In a city like London, where space is scarce, even small gestures—like growing plants on a windowsill or creating beauty from waste—can foster a meaningful connection with nature.

The campaign celebrates these acts of guardianship and creativity, demonstrating how we can make peace with nature by extending the life of what we already have, embracing imperfections, and proudly displaying the marks of time.
